Chicago native Brooke Barrettsmith will release her self-titled, debut album with Essential Records on Aug. 19. She has written a collection of uniquely crafted songs, melding her love of musical influences Jeremy Camp, Daughtry and Kelly Clarkson, with passionate lyrics reflecting messages of faith and encouragement. The debut is produced by Aaron Sprinkle (Jeremy Camp, Kutless, The Almost) and Rob Hawkins (Fireflight, Jackson Waters).
Barrettsmith says, “I hope these songs inspire listeners to be bold and not ashamed of their faith in Christ because that’s a huge part of my live ministry—clearly sharing the Word of God and encouraging people to know Him better.”
Brooke’s first radio single, “Farewell” is currently New & Active at Christian radio and the song has already impacted 2.4 million listeners on the CHR format in markets such as Nashville, Tenn.; San Luis Obispo, Calif.; Virginia Beach, Va.; and Springfield, Mo. She toured this spring with GRAMMY-nominated artist Pillar on the “For the Love of the Game” tour featuring Wavorly and Building 429.
Brooke Barrettsmith will be on tour this fall with “The Million Voices Tour” with BarlowGirl and Jimmy Needham. Dates TBA.
At home, Brooke is a youth group leader at her local church and studies at Moody Bible College. In 2006, Brooke made it to the Top 40 contestants on Fox TV’s Season Five of “American Idol” (Chris Daughtry, Mandisa, Katherine McPhee). Adept at guitar and piano, as well as a prolific writer, Brooke’s musical heritage runs deep. Both her grandmothers were performers in Chicago, one a Broadway singer and the other an Italian opera singer. Her father, now a non-denominational Bible church pastor, was a professional blues drummer and played venues with legends like Buddy Guy and B.B. King.

Facts About Brooke Barrettsmith:
Brooke Barrettsmith is from Chicago. She’s a D-I-E-H-A-R-D fan of the Cubs.
And the Bears. But please don’t talk about it because she’s still recovering from the
Bears’ loss in last year’s Super Bowl. She likes to sing, comes by it honestly. In fact,
before becoming a pastor her Dad was a professional Blues drummer. Oh yeah, and her
Grandma sang on the Chicago Broadway stage. And her other Grandma was an opera
singer. In fact, Brooke took classical voice in college with plans to go to Broadway.
She’s got music in her veins is what we’re saying.
A short while ago, Brooke tried out for a Fox reality talent show called “American Idol”. She made it all the way to the Top 40 before leaving the show and became friends with some other contestants: Chris Daughtry, Mandisa, Katherine McPhee…
One thing Brooke isn’t, and that’s quiet. She’s talks a lot and laughs a lot (loudly!) and thinks she’s pretty funny. Hilarious, even. One of her favorite things to do is make scary or weird faces at people just to make them laugh. Maybe it’s all the Starbucks caffeine. If she’s not quoting lines from The Office or Will Ferrell movies, she’s probably talking your ear off about how much she loves Jesus. He’s one of her favorite things to talk about. In fact, Brooke is a gifted communicator and has regular speaking engagements including speaking at Unlimited Hope Women’s conferences. She’s very intentional about sharing the love and hope of Jesus with anyone who will listen. Right now she’s a student at Moody Bible Institute working on a degree in Biblical studies.
Brooke does not eat meat, thankyouverymuch.
She’s just recorded her debut album. Brooke co-wrote all of the songs on the
record that can be musically compared to a female version of Chris Daughtry or Jeremy
Camp. She’s excited to share her new music with you today.
One more thing. Brooke’s Grandpa Barrettsmith built the Sears Tower and the
Hancock Building in Chicago. No lie.
And yes, Barrettsmith is one word.
